Benchmarks |
| Now lets
see how the ioDrive performs, both by itself, and in direct comparison
to top SSDs available today. HD Tach, ATTO, PC Mark, and
Passmark will be used to evaluate performance. We compared to
64GB SSDs in all categories of performance and value. We also
included our tests results from the $150 Western Digital 10,000RPM
Raptor hard drive. |

up: HD Tach |
| HD Tach is
a popular benchmark with testers worldwide. It features a
sustained read test across the entire drive as well as an access time
time test. While CPU utilization is also tested, in today's fast
computers, it probably isn't much of an issue. Write testing can
be enabled if the target drive is not formatted, therefore to do write
testing the target cannot be the boot drive. |

Burst
speed: This is the
fastest burst speed we have ever noted from a single drive. We
feel that burst speed is not as important as sustained throughput, but
hard drives typically beat SSDs in burst. Not the case here. The access time was so
fast as to be undetectable by HD Tach. The only other drive we
have ever seen with a 0.0ms access time on this benchmark is the
HyperDrive which is a RAM Drive (not an SSD).
Read speed: To get 495MB/S
performance form another SSD right now would take a quantity of FIVE PRO level drives
in RAID0 on an $800 high-end controller card!
Write speed: This is the
fastest write speed we have ever seen!
Access time: Speaks for itself.
MTRON and Memoright SSDs have a .1ms access time. 10K RPM Raptor hard
drive has and 8ms access time.

Burst
speed: A high-end SSD such as the Memoright typically has a burst
speed right around the average read speed.
Read speed: The ioDrive is approximately four times faster
in read. Write speed: The
Memoright was the fastest writing drive we had seen....Until now. |

Read /
Write speed: On a hard drive, the read and write performance
trails off. It starts high at the edge of the disk and declines
as data is written to the innermost sectors. With the ioDrive
(and any other SSD) the performance remains constant regardless of
weather you are reading / writing on the first byte or last byte of
the drive. The trailoff on a hard drive is actually very
pronounced. It is just not as evident on a chart that has such a
large Y-axis due to the extreme performance difference.
Access time: One of the biggest
benefits of SSD. Even if SSDs and hard drives had the same read
/ write speeds, and 80X - 200X improvement in access time would make a
huge difference in real world performance. But there is no
compromise here.

| Read speed:
ATTO shows a much higher read speed of over 800MB/S when compared to
HD Tach. We usually get a SLIGHTLY higher test result with ATTO,
but generally there is not much of a difference.
Write speed: ATTO also
yeilds a higher score in writing. Read and write are both above
the company's specifications. |
