I was just reading about this. Cheaper AND faster than a MOBI? Hmm....
http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/36441/135/
"Sunnyvale (CA) - OCZ Technology has announced it next generation of SSD drives that are up to twice as fast as the previous generation. While first generation SSD drives had read speeds of 58 MB/s and supported write speeds of up to 35 MB/s, the second generation comes with a massive 120 MB/s read and an even more impressive 100MB/s write speed."
Anybody have more info? Any chance DVNation will be carrying these?

That drive does not appear to be in production. I will pit our 120MB/S Memoright GT, or MTRON PRO against OCZ (when they finally produce this product) any day. Please take note of "ANNOUNCEMENTS." Announcements are different from "AVAILABILITY." Usually 3 months elapse between an announcement and production. The MTRON 1.8" 128GB 120MB/s SSD is a perfect example. It was "announced" in February, but the are predicting April availability -- and of course we will be the first to get it WHEN it comes out.
There are many exciting SSDs from Memoirght and MTRON coming down the pipe throughout the rest of this year.
Our newest drive is the GT version of the 2.5" 32GB SATA from Memoright. Memoright now makes the fastest 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB SSD you can buy! All at http://www.dvnation.com/nand-flash-ssd.html#Memoright .
MTRON makes awesome 100MB/s SSDs. 32GB close to $700. And 64GB in the $1200 range. So that's close to the OCZ price points, and certainly with class-leading performance.

I love the drives by the way...I have the 2.5 SATA MITRON and I have benchmard specs close to what is posted on the website. I digress. If the newer drives from OCZ are finally released whenever they decide to release them. While there be a competing price cut to match there $400 drive?

The main feature I am looking at OCZ is that they are going to use the SATA II technology with they drives. Instead of 1.5 Gbps it would be 3.0 Gbps.
Nothing fancy...just hoping the OCZ competition causes other drives to drop in price so I can by enough for RAID*I am on a budget.

oh ok, well 100 and 80 isn't bad thats what I get now with my 2.5 mtron mobi

Again. SATA I vs SATA II means NOTHING. 1.5Gbps reference vs 3.0Gps reference means NOTHING. Based on SATA II, wouldn't you think that a 10,000 RPM SATA II Raptor would sustain a FASTER read speed than an MTRON IDE SSD? You'd be WRONG! SATA II Raptor average read speed? About 75MB/s. MTRON 32GB IDE average read speed? 105MB/s! Look at stated PERFORMANCE, not INTERFACE. THEN look at what you ACTUALLY GET. We will see if OCZ ACTUALLY achieves its rating.
We are still working on getting some new makes and models of SSD, but its pretty tough. I would think that competition among manufacturers will boost speed.

the ocz is just a re-packed samsung sata II drive. Samsung could not hold their initial claims of 120/100 read write. It cam out to be 100/80. If you google you find many shops who claim to have the drives in stock.
The drive should also be the same you get in the thinkpads right now (just different form factor). People on the thinkpad forum are quite happy with the performance of the drive.
Whats also nice is that you can get an adapter from 1.8 to 2.5" form factor:

dingo,
Thanks for the link.
It loooks to me like there is no 'new' technology there. It just looks like what is already available at a lower price. Time will tell if the OCZ product works as well as what is already available or is it just a matter of 'you get what you pay for'.

I didn't mean to insult the Webmaster...as he did sound enraged at my comment about OCZ and other developing SATA 300 over the SATA 150. The is little difference between the two except for bandwidth.
But I had to post this link for SuperTalents attempt at a performance SSD.
It's 120GB...with supposed 100MB/s Read and 40MB/s Write....I think I will stick with DV Nation and wait for the competition to drop the prices in the market more.

Overall I think Memoright has the best performance when compared with other branded SSDs.
I just don't want to pay that much money for a single drive right now...hopefully in the near future they will start manufacturing SSDs in BULK and drop the price to what are current drives cost.
My future goal is to have 3-4 MOBI's or similar build within my desktop RAID 0 and smoking the competition.
In any case, Have a Happy Memorial Day and remember our Veteran's.

LOL. YES. You guys are sharp. My contact at Samsung SWEARS UP AND DOWN that the OCZ drive is NOT a repackaged Samsung drive, but the specs ARE SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR AREN'T THEY?? I remember seeing ads for Samsung SSDs a few months ago. The spec went from 100MB/S Read ; 80MB/S Write to 120MB/S read ; 100MB/S write. Now if you go to http://www.samsungssd.html and grab the CURRENT SATA-II PDF, you will see they are really 100MB/S Read ; 80MB/S write. Apparantly they were SHOOTING FOR 120MB/s, but achieved 100MB/s. OCZ kept their spec too high! This is why we benchmark our products so that you, the consumer are not fooled. You can then make an informed decision. Other guys only sell and try to make a profit off of products and technology that they do not understand. I guess this is a good place to hide the fact that DV Nation SHOULD have the Samsung SATA-II SSDs in stock within one week. 2.5" SATA and a strange 1.8" with SATA (I mean, I don't know any computers that use this, but Samsung is producing them for some reason. It must be the future for comptuers such as Motion Computing and we just don't know it yet). 32GB and 64GB will be the initial capacities (I should have a tracking number on the 2.5" 64s on Tuesday). FREE DOMESTING SHIPPING promotion on these new drives. Price will be about 15% cheaper than MTRON MOBI. We have been waiting OVER A YEAR for these! Anandtech.com actually just tested the Samsung SATA-II and they were VERY IMPRESSED! It won the PC Mark tests OVER MTRON! If you want to purchase a 64GB Samsung SATA-II SLC SSD before it is formally posted e-mail us at the "contact us" link and we will give you the order link! The price is $1049 ea for 64GB.

That's not strictly true. The interface speed is an upper bound on the maximum burst speed, which will also affect the maximum performance for RAIDs. I.e., on drives that contain RAM caches, the controller can read or write blocks to a device at full interface speed, then free up the channel and write to another device at full speed. On most HDDs you'll be able to achieve the full interface speed for short bursts.
It seems to me that none of these SSDs contain any RAM caches, which is a shame. If you're going to put a 300MB/sec interface on a drive, you ought to put enough RAM on it so that you can actually see 300MB/sec throughput once in a while...

I hate quoting within a quote. Anyway, there are SSD's with RAM Cache one is the

I am looking forward to the new ones that arecoming out in a few days. Although they are mlc they seem to be able to perform quite well if their specs can be believed. And the price is just fantastic.
