Playstation 3 fit a standard 2,5" HDD.
Do you think it's possible to put an 2,5"SSD into a PS3?

I haven't heard of anyone doing it, but it should work.
Is it a good idea? That's debatable. It might speed up your load times, but it's not gonna get you more frags in Call of Duty 4.

I will install a Memoright 2.5" SATA 64Gb GT maybe next week.
In order to compare it with the original 60Gb I will make a video for the loading of one game.

I would like to see your report on your results. Hopefully the SSD will make for a "snappier" system, just like if you installed the SSD into any computer. The PS3 is basically a computer.

DONE!
1) On the net everybody say "use only a 5'400rpm, if you use a 7'200rpm
pS3 will not work properly". (Maybe the PS3's OS have limited instructions?)
Well, I don't know what kind of integrated controller have a Memo GT 64Gb, but it works. I've tried all my games, and also old PS2 games like crash bandicot or wipeout, multissession online with ghost recon 2 and resistance fall of man, everything and every game work properly...and quickly.
2) When you start for the first time with a new drive the Ps3's OS ask you to format the drive, normally you need an average of 2 or 3 min.
With this Memo 64Gb GT you have just the time to say "let's go" and the format is already finish, I mean 1 or 2 sec!
I have format 3 time 'cause I don't believed what my eyes are seeing.
The video will come end of this week or begin next week.
3) Boot sequence dont change so much, I think PS3's OS don't load so many Mb form the drive for the boot sequence. About 10% impovement, but 10% from 15 sec is not enough to feel a real improvement.
4) the load time of the games is very fast, if the game is installed on the drive: the loading sequence of Assasin's Creed go from 17 sec (with hard drive) to 4 sec with Memo . If the game is loaded from the Blue-ray drive the time doesn't change much, obviously (improvement 10-15%). If the game is half installed, half on blue-ray drive, you have for exemple F.E.A.R. and you go from 1min24sec on HDD to 40sec on Memo GT.
The feeling of improvement is not so strong. I was more impressed changing the drive on the Pc.
I think the PS3's OS don't use so much the drive. The feeling is like it goes just light faster.

efranchi, thanks for reporting back :)
I was really curious how well it would actually work, and I suppose your results are in-line with my expectations. I think there are better ways to utilize a $2000 SSD...
