While this may be beyond the scope of this forum, I was wondering if anyone here knows where I can get a very small adapter that can convert the ZIF interface found on modern HDDs to micro-ATA, which is found on my iRiver H140. I want to continue using this device and need more space, which is offered by current (ZIF-only) HDDs.
Thanks very much...

Many of the 1.8" drives, such as from SanDisk and SamSung may come with a 40 pin ZIF connector, (See page 9 of
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/products/flash/downloads/ds_nssd_18_standard_type_preliminary_rev01.pdf)
The connector is made by DDK of Japan, part DDK FF14-40A-R11B. Note that most ZIF cables are 0.3mm thick. You can get such a simple FFC 40 pin 0.5mm pitch jumper cable made by Molex by ordering via DigiKey or similar.
The DDK part, however, is 0.2mm thick and a standard ZIF jumper cable is too fat to fit. I have searched all over for such a cable and can't find one. I did get a quote from Axon, but the minimum order is 500. Flex cable manufacturers can make them, but they are custom parts.
So, for you and I, there are very few options. Nothing off the shelf for connecting to the 1.8" drive ZIF connectors is available other than the cable that comes with a latop. Ouch for now!

Ouch for now!And I suspect that the situation will get worse in the future for us who still insist on using these older iRiver units for our portable music needs, as newer drives may never be made in micro-ATA format anymore. I'd love to someday put in a modern 100+GB drive to actually justify the size of my old device, but that drive is ZIF-only.

Hm, we don't have the possibility to buy ZIF drives online here for 1.8", but we don't get an adapter... I got a Micro-ATA SSD right now in my hands, but there's no way to connect to my ZIF based notebook?
this is very bad.

Won't work for me; the female 'Toshiba' connector in my unit is for 1.8" micro-ATA drives.
How about this connector theres four to choose from- http://wantitnow.ebay.com/ZIF-to-micro-ATA-adapter_W0QQadidZ250203278678.
