Just got an Mtron PATA (32Gb) and set it into a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18. The performance is well below the specifications of the unit. I get roughly 80mb/s read and 37mb/s write, as tested using HD Tach, HD Tune, and ATTO.
In addition, the reboot/reset does not seem to work. Each time I restart the laptop (hot reboot) the operating system is not found. I repeat - EACH TIME. A cold reboot ALLWAYS works. In regards to the reboot issue I got 2 answers:
- from the management of DVnation - that the Panasonic computers are not compatible with SSD;
- from the Mtron tech support - an acknowledgement that the reset may not be handled properly by the SSD; and that the problem was passed to the development team.
Regarding the slow performance, I sent an e-mail to the Mtron tech support, but have not received an answer yet.
The laptop I use has the following chipset configuration:
North Bridge Intel Alviso G-i915GM/910GML
South Bridge Intel 82801FBM ICH6-M
This is a PATA configuration.
The SSD is partitioned half and half, XP on C (NTFS) and data on D (FAT32). The firmware of the SSD is 0.18R1H3 (latest) - it came with it.
I managed to pull a few pdf-s off a Japanese website with compatible and incompatible systems with all Mtron series, and the only Panasonic listed as incompatible is the CF-R2. For notebooks see:
http://www.j-dsolution.com/MtronGTAC_Non-Compatibility_20080613_ver2.2.pdf
Assuming that there are no compatibility issues, I am concerned about this particular SSD (or the batch) of being faulty. Perhaps somebody else may have more information on this issue. I am a computer tech but have no experience with SSD-s.
Thanks,
CSI
